The speakers principle is very old, we know that when piled high -
speakers column reduced the vertical coverage angle and maintain the dispersion
horizontal, thus the acoustic sensitivity is greatly increased, in other words the system speaks much more and much clearer.
So that systems can be vertically stacked some conditions must be met.
The distance between the radiation centers of the loudspeakers must be at least half the wavelength of any frequency spectrum.
At low frequencies all well as the wavelengths are large (eg. 50 Hz 6.8 meters, 100 meters 3,4 Hz 0.68 Hz 500 meters, 1000 meters 0.32 Hz), we found that till 1000 Hz got stack speakers physically columns without major problems.
